Local bus operator, First Bus Eastern Counties, has announced that fares are changing from 1st January 2025, in response to the UK Government fare cap increase from £2.00 to £3.00.

Key changes:
- From 1st January, the maximum single fare will be £3, but many shorter journeys will cost less.
- Adult singles will be priced between £1.80 and £3.00, and young person’s singles between £1.40 and £3.00.
- 42% of fares in Norfolk and Suffolk will cost less than £3.00.
- Fare changes are limited to singles, day tickets and 10-Trip tickets only, all other period tickets will remain at current prices.
- The Norfolk County Council BSIP funded £1.50 fare cap will remain in place in Great Yarmouth and King’s Lynn, and the 25% discount on group, weekly and monthly tickets will remain in place across Norfolk.
- The £2.00 fare cap will be held in Cambridgeshire and Peterborough (for Excel customers).
Piers Marlow, Managing Director of First Bus East of England, said: “Our fares will be changing on the 1st January in response to the UK Government’s £3 fare cap.
“Despite growing costs and increasing our network of services, we’ve worked hard to minimise the impact of this fare change and demonstrate our ongoing commitment to encouraging more people to travel sustainably by bus.
“Many shorter journeys will cost less than £3, with adult singles priced between £1.80 and £3.00.
“For those taking longer journeys, such as the Coastlink service between Lowesoft and Norwich, £3 still represents incredible value.
“We want to make sure that bus travel remains great value in Norfolk and Suffolk, and that our customers continue to choose the bus.”
A list of new fares can be found on the First Bus website.
